Service changes

Dear mental health services staff,

when referring new clients to Western respite services, please be aware that we currently have limited or no funding remaining for our family holiday and brokerage services for the remainder of this financial year. This means that those ‘places’ still remaining will most likely be taken by existing clients already on the waiting list, or those awaiting assessment that have expressed an interest in those services.

Furthermore, as Western respite services is undergoing a significant service re-structure (click here for more details), it is unclear at this stage which of our existing services will be available in the new financial year. Please consider this also when referring new clients.

Available places on our group holiday and day trips are also limited, with those occurring toward the end of this financial year being the only ones with vacancies remaining. While this means that new clients may be eligible for places on group holidays, please bear in mind that it is standard Western respite services procedure to ensure that all new clients wishing to attend a group holiday must attend a day trip or small group activity first.

There are a significant number of vacancies remaining for our 1:1 individual respite service and small groups, including the Sunshine and Highpoint movie group; Newport and Brunswick women’s group and the Newport walking group.

Referrals

Due to a back log of referrals and the fact that WRS is closing down over Christmas, please note that any new clients referred to our service will not be contacted or assessed until the new year. 

We would like to wish all our clients and carers, and staff from other services a safe and happy Christmas and new year.
